Welcome from our Principal

MacArthur Families,

Welcome to MacArthur Elementary School. I am excited to be entering my 27th year as the Principal of MacArthur Elementary School. Welcome to our new students and families and I am excited to meet you. For our returning families, I look forward to seeing you and continuing to serve you, your children and the entire MacArthur School community.  Our team here at MacArthur are all committed to providing all of our students the best educational experience possible.

MacArthur has been rated as an “A” school by the State of Indiana for the last several years and our partnerships and collaboration with our students’ parents and families is a key component of the success and growth our students and school has seen. As a school, we have a “Whatever It Takes” approach and work at developing the whole child; academically, emotionally, and socially.

This school year MacArthur is undergoing approximately an 18-month construction project. The next couple of years is going to be very exciting. Our building will have 13 new classrooms, including ‘flex’ spaces for instruction and programs, a new stage and new gymnasium, STEM space for innovative, 21st century learning, and all of our classrooms receiving an upgrade.

I would encourage you to be engaged and connected to the MacArthur School community to help us strengthen our home-school partnership.  We are so fortunate to have a wonderful parent community, and your support makes a huge difference.  Thank you all for your commitment in helping make MacArthur an amazing place for students to grow and learn.

Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns and I will do my best to help.

Sincerely,

Marian L. Buchko, Principal

Welcome from our Assistant Principal

Hello, MacArthur Elementary Families!

I am so excited to begin 2023-2024 school year as your Assistant Principal!  This year marks my 17th year in education.  I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Purdue University and obtained my M.B.A in Educational Leadership from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business.  Previous to my administrative role, I taught kindergarten and first grade for 15 years in the School Town of Munster.

I consider our school my second home and alongside Ms. Buchko, teachers and staff, we work to attain the best possible environment that nurtures and educates all of the students that enter the doors of MacArthur Elementary. WE ARE FAMILY and we want all those that enter our building to feel the warmth and care we offer each and every day. We thank you for charging us with not only educating your children but allowing us to help build a community of caring citizens that will be the future of Crown Point and beyond.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and building relationships as we work together to help your children learn and grow. Thank you for the opportunity to work with your children each day.  I am truly honored. Please feel free to contact me if you ever have questions, concerns, or just want to share good news about your child or about our school.

Educationally Yours,

Laura E. Florek
