Welcome from our Principal

Dear MacArthur Families,

Welcome to the 2026–2027 School Year, Mustangs!

It is an honor to introduce myself as the new principal of MacArthur Elementary and to serve this incredible school community in a new role. Many of you already know me from my time as assistant principal, where I have had the privilege of serving the MacArthur community for the past four and a half years. Before becoming an administrator, I spent 15 years in the classroom, where I learned that the most meaningful learning happens when students know they are seen, supported, and capable of achieving great things. I am truly excited to begin this new chapter as principal and honored to lead a school that has become so special to me.

MacArthur has a long tradition of excellence, and I look forward to building upon the strong foundation that already exists. I am committed to creating a school where students are challenged to grow, supported every step of the way, and encouraged to reach their full potential. I look forward to celebrating our students' accomplishments, embracing new opportunities, and continuing to foster a school community where every Mustang is encouraged to do their very best.

Students will be at the heart of every decision I make as principal. My goal is for every child to feel that they belong at MacArthur and be excited to learn from the moment they walk through our doors. I want every Mustang to experience the joy of learning and discover their full potential in a nurturing learning environment where they feel safe to embrace challenges, take risks, and celebrate their growth. Above all, I want every student to know they are supported every step of the way. I also believe that a positive school culture begins with kindness. When kindness is at the heart of our school, students feel respected, valued, and connected, creating a community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. By working together as school and family, we create the strongest foundation for student success and help every child reach their fullest potential.

As we begin this new school year, I can't wait to get to know your family and celebrate your child's growth and achievements along the way. I encourage you to stay connected through ParentSquare and our MacArthur Elementary Facebook page for important updates and school news throughout the year. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions or simply want to connect. You can contact me at lflorek@cps.k12.in.us or by calling our school office at (219) 662-3600. I am excited for the year ahead and look forward to a school year filled with meaningful learning, lasting memories, and opportunities for every Mustang to shine.

Warmly,

Mrs. Laura Florek, Principal
